I had some errands to run in the morning so I didn’t end up
getting into the city until later than I would have liked. I picked up my
ticket from Julia and arrived at the Palace Theatre around 4:30. I was
expecting a long line but not as long as the one that was there. After
following the winding line I reached the end and sat in an alley on a milk
carton and waited. More people started
arriving and soon enough the line had already filled up the alley was in and
was making its way around to another street. I didn’t have much to do so I
listened to other people talking and I heard someone say Fall Out Boy weren’t
coming on until 10 which seemed bizarre because doors opened at 7:30 and no one
knew who the opening act were but surely they couldn’t play for that long? I
also heard people talk about how they were going to be on the Project and a
couple of girls were going there to see them.
Priyanka came around 7 or so and brought me food which was
great because I hadn’t eaten until the morning. A while after she came we went
inside and the floor had about four or five rows of people so there was no way
I would be able to see the stage from there because everyone was tall, so we
went up to the first balcony and had a perfect view of the stage. Fall out Boy
weren’t starting until 9:40 so we had ages to kill until then so we bought
t-shirts. They only had 2 designs and I didn’t like them that much but I ended
up getting one anyway, now I’m kind of wishing I bought the other t-shirt but I
always do that, yes anyway.
The supporting act were these two DJs…yeah. They came on at
8 and were playing until 9:10. It was a little bizarre having DJs at a concert.
Most of the songs they played were rnb, hip hop, and mainstream stuff and let
me tell you, it was totally the wrong music for that crowd. There were a few
people getting into it but majority of the crowd were just standing around sort
of like “what the hell is going on?”. They did play a few songs by bands, not
many and that got a bit of a better response. They weren’t bad DJs; it just
wasn’t the right thing to have. I don’t know why they had them, they could have
gotten any local band to play and that would have been better.
After they finished it was time for FALL OUT BOY! I was
beyond excited; it was basically all I was thinking about the last couple of
days. They came out and played Thriller and my god they were AMAZING. Just
everything about them was perfect. They played a heap of songs with a mix from
their past three albums and it was so great to hear those songs live.
My photos are beyond crappy. This is the best photo I took and it's pretty bad so yes there won't be photos up.
I got a couple of alright videos which made me think why didn't I just film a lot more stuff. It's annoying because I have the start of a few songs but not the whole thing, apart from What A Catch Donnie. Still the audio on the videos aren't the greatest. My old camera had really good audio which is a bummer that this one doesn't. Anyway.
Andy was amazing on the drums, Joe my god his guitar solos
were incredible. Pete was so funny and kept swearing and Patrick, don’t let me
get started on him. I’ve had a crush on him since around year 10 so getting to
see him and hear him live was the best and oh gosh his little dance moves were
so cute and hot at the same time if that’s possible. But that voice. Dear lord, he sounded perfect
live.
Oh there's also another of my more 'decent' photos.
They didn’t talk as much as I would have liked but they were
still funny and completely adorable. Pete did the most talking and Patrick
would say some things too. At one point Pete said MELBOURNE like how Americans
say it and Patrick corrected him and I thought it was funny. They would have
these random stories that would lead into songs. At one point Patrick was
talking about the song they were going to play next and said “this is the best
song we’re going to play tonight”, then started talking about the 80s and how
this song was one of the best things that came out of them, then went “apart
from me of course” and he laughed and lordy. The song was their cover of
Michael Jackson’s Thriller from Folie A Deux and Joe’s guitar solo in that song
was one of my favourite things.
My shipper heart went a little crazy over Patrick and Pete
because they would go up to each other and be adorable.
They were talking about how they loved that we had the same
anthem as them, everyone was a little confused until they started singing the
start of Grand Theft Autumn.
Andy and Pete turning in circles while playing, I don’t
understand how they do that, it’s so cool and so fun to watch.
They started talking about doing these hands. Actually here
watch the start of this (not my video)
Those hands during My Songs. Okay it doesn’t look that great
in that video but it was so amazing. I can’t forget how it was during that
song, they lit the whole place up during the chorus so you could see the crowd
and everyone’s arms moving and from where I was standing it was brilliant. I
couldn’t stop smiling the whole time. It was one of those moments where you
look around and everything just felt so great.
I wish that video had Pete’s speech before they sang the
song. He was talking about the title of their next album and about music in
general and stuff.
Oh also, someone in the very front row must have had a sign
asking them to play Sophomore Slump so Patrick read the sign and told the other
guys. He said they hadn’t played that song in a while, then played it which was
so awesome of them.
After singing Sugar, We’re Going Down, they went off stage
then came back for an encore. Pete had
changed his top and was wearing a singlet now so this girl behind me was going
a little nuts.
Pete was saying this story about a one night stand he had with someone but it was to set up for Thnks Fr Th Mmrs because he said something about her saying ‘he tastes like you but sweeter’ .

Their last song was Saturday (which got my shipper heart going again because Patrick pointed at Pete during the 'Pete and I attacked the lost Astoria' part) and Pete went into the crowd
during the song which would have been amazing if I was at the front. A great
way to end a fantastic set they had.
We hung around a little while after the show but couldn’t
stay so didn’t get to meet them. Although it was a bummer, I was still
incredibly happy I got to see them.
I found out later that some douche made a noise complaint
about the show so the police ended up coming which meant FOB had to leave,
therefore not many people got to meet them after the show. Why would you make a
noise complaint about a concert!?
Anyway, in conclusion, I feel unbelievably happy and lucky
to have seen one of my favourite bands and hear my favourite singer perform
live.
I’m already eagerly waiting for their next show.
Sounds like an awesome experience! Very happy for you that you got to go =)
